- What is the edge of the solar system?The Sun does not end at the last planet. It breathes a wind of charged particles outward for billions of kilometres, carving a vast bubble in the dark. Where that wind finally loses to the pressure of the galaxy — that is the true shore of our home.
- An ocean of nothingBeyond that shore lies the space between the stars — colder, emptier, and more silent than anything within it. For all of history it was untouchable. And then, within a single human lifetime, we reached it.

The Long Road
How you fall out of a solar system

- Humanity's reach→This is how far we have thrown ourselves. Watch the planets fall away, one by one, until the Sun itself shrinks to a bright point behind you — and the road ahead is nothing but the long, patient dark.
Act 3
Who Went First
The scouts of the interstellar road
- Act IIIWho Went First
- The Pioneers led the wayBefore anything else, two Pioneers went ahead — the first ships to cross the asteroid belt, the first to skim Jupiter's storms. They carry a plaque of a man and a woman, a map to Earth, drifting now beyond our hearing.
- The Voyagers followed→Then came the two that would go furthest of all. Ride their grand tour of the giants.

Crossing the Line
The moment we left the Sun behind

- Through the heliopause→There is no wall out here, no sign to mark it. Just a change in the wind: the Sun's breath fading, the galaxy's pressing in. On that day Voyager 1 slipped across the invisible shore — and for the first time, a thing made on Earth was sailing between the stars.

New Horizons carries on

- New Horizons at PlutoIn 2015 the newest of the travellers reached a small, cold world at the frontier and revealed it in a single breathtaking pass: heart-shaped plains of frozen nitrogen, mountains of water ice, a sky of blue haze. Then it, too, sailed on into the dark.
- The frontier world→Look back at where the frontier begins. Pluto and its icy kin mark the last outposts of sunlight before the true dark — the doorway every outbound traveller passes through on the way to forever.

What's Out There
The road to the nearest stars
- Act VIWhat's Out There
- The nearest starsAhead of every traveller lies the goal we have not yet dared: another sun. The closest, Proxima Centauri, holds a world in its warm zone — a planet we can already name but never touch, four light-years and a whole imagination away.
- Our interstellar futureFor now, five silent scouts carry us outward at speeds we once thought impossible — and they are only the beginning. One day a faster ship will overtake them, and the space between the stars, once untouchable, will become a road we travel on purpose.
