Operated by ESA (provides Lunar Link); NASA/Northrop Grumman (HALO host)
High-rate lunar communications system provided by ESA on the Gateway's HALO module. On 2026-03-24 NASA paused the Gateway program 'in its current form,' with roughly $20B of planned spending pivoted toward a lunar surface base; completed hardware (HALO, PPE) may be repurposed. ESA's decision on the disposition of its Gateway contributions — including Lunar Link — is due June 2026, so 'cancelled' here reflects the paused program of record, not destroyed hardware. HALO module had arrived at Northrop Grumman's Gilbert, Arizona facility 2025-04-01 from Thales Alenia Space Turin.
