Command Module Pilot of Apollo 15 who performed the first deep-space EVA, retrieving film canisters 315,000 km from Earth. He died in 2020.
Before NASAU.S. Air Force fighter and test pilot who flew F-86D Sabres and F-102 Delta Daggers, trained at Britain's Empire Test Pilots' School, and served as an instructor at the USAF Aerospace Research Pilot School under Colonel Chuck Yeager before joining NASA in 1966.
