Agnikul Cosmos
Overview
Agnikul builds Agnibaan, a customizable two-stage small-lift orbital rocket designed to fly any payload up to ~300 kg to LEO from any launch port. Its core differentiator is the Agnilet — the world's first single-piece, fully 3D-printed semi-cryogenic engine, which flew on the SOrTeD sub-orbital demonstrator from Agnikul's own private launchpad at Sriharikota in May 2024. Revenue model is dedicated launches priced for the 'launch-anywhere, anytime' market, leveraging mobile/transportable launch infrastructure that complements rather than competes with ISRO's PSLV/SSLV. Based at IIT Madras' incubation cell with a Rocket Factory-1 in Chennai capable of printing a complete engine in days.
Moat: Agnikul is the only company in the world to have flown a single-piece 3D-printed semi-cryogenic engine, validated on the Agnibaan SOrTeD mission (May 30, 2024). Its in-house Rocket Factory-1 can print a complete Agnilet engine in roughly 72 hours, collapsing the propulsion supply chain that takes traditional rivals 6-12 months. Agnikul also operates India's first and only private launchpad and mission control complex (ALP / AMC) at Sriharikota — built with ISRO support and exclusive to Agnikul under its IN-SPACe authorization, a regulatory and infrastructure moat that is effectively unrepeatable.

Near-term Catalysts
- 2026-Q4 / 2027-H1
Agnibaan first orbital flight from ALP, Sriharikota
First fully-3D-printed-engine orbital launch ever — validates the customizable-architecture thesis and unlocks paying smallsat manifests.
- 2026
Cluster hot-fire of 7 Agnilet engines on Agnibaan stage-1
Demonstrates synchronized multi-engine ignition and throttle control — the key remaining technical risk before orbital flight.
- 2026-2027
First commercial smallsat customer manifest announcement
Converts SOrTeD heritage into bookable revenue and benchmarks pricing vs. Skyroot, Rocket Lab, and Firefly.
Top Risks
- Orbital-flight execution risk — clustering seven engines with stage separation has historically been a primary failure mode for new small-lift vehicles.
- Direct domestic competition from Skyroot Aerospace, which has 2x the funding ($160M vs. ~$75M) and a head-start on its orbital debut.
- Smaller balance sheet relative to global rivals (Rocket Lab, Firefly) and Skyroot — at $500M valuation and ~$75M raised, Agnikul will likely need a Series D within 18-24 months to reach steady commercial cadence.
- Concentration risk on a single launch site (ALP, Sriharikota) and single propulsion architecture — any major Agnilet anomaly grounds the entire business.
