Overview
Veteran cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko rode Soyuz MS-11 to the ISS on his fourth flight, arriving just weeks after the dramatic Soyuz MS-10 launch abort had shaken confidence in the rocket. The flight was a return to form, lifting off as the 100th orbital launch of 2018. Kononenko commanded Expedition 58 alongside two rookies: NASA's Anne McClain and Canadian David Saint-Jacques, the first Canadian aboard the station since Chris Hadfield. With the crew trimmed to three by the abort fallout, Kononenko's steady experience kept research and maintenance on track through a lean winter on orbit. The trio sustained the laboratory until fresh crews restored full staffing in March 2019, before returning safely to the Kazakh steppe in June after more than 200 days in space.
