About
For four decades the most-used sounding-rocket range on Earth, firing more than 3,500 rockets into the aurora from the shore of Hudson Bay. Launched Canada's International Geophysical Year programme and the first flight of the Black Brant sounding rocket (1959, still flying today from Poker Flat and Wallops). A 1990s attempt by Akjuit Aerospace to convert it into the world's first commercial spaceport collapsed for lack of funding in 1998. A National Historic Site of Canada since 1988.
