Command Module Pilot of Apollo 13, added to the prime crew just three days before launch after Ken Mattingly was exposed to German measles. He nursed the crippled command module Odyssey home after the oxygen tank explosion.
Before NASAU.S. Air Force fighter pilot and civilian engineering test pilot for North American Aviation and Pratt & Whitney before joining NASA's fifth astronaut group.
