Odyssey Expeditions/The Yggdrasil Initiative/Mission 4
Season One · Mission 4
Original fiction · grounded in real science
A gate two roots out is forgetting its own geometry, drifting toward a corridor shape no ship has survived. The one structure that remembers the original design is an archive orbiting a dead star — so deep in its gravity well that an hour inside costs three days outside. It does not accept payment. It accepts knowledge of equivalent uniqueness, judged by rules it will not disclose. You are the Pathfinder. Decide what a species may spend.
Original fiction · Grounded in real science
The only structure that remembers how to save the gate does not take payment. It takes knowledge — and it keeps what it takes.

5 decisions, 4 endings. The endings are not picked by your last choice — they are computed from everything you accumulated: crew trust, how much of the signal you understood, and how much attention you drew doing it. Two players can make the same final call and end somewhere different, because they arrived carrying different things.
Reaching an ending files it permanently. The roots on the left light as you collect them, and some endings carry forward — a season this long remembers what you did four missions ago.
One ship, five specialists, one door that has been closed for three thousand years. Every voice below speaks during the mission — learn them here, recognize them out there. The plates are depth scans rather than photographs: this crew is invented, and no image on SpaceOdysseyHub pretends otherwise.
Survey vessel Hemvard · YI-01
Lattice spine · hab ring · twin aurora drives · Huginn probe docked
Mission founder · Network interface
Traded her biological sight for the lattice-link. Sees the network; no longer sees faces.
Expedition security · Gravitics
Carries the only field-inertia tool ever cleared for flight. Has never switched it on in anger.
Translation intelligence
A linguistics engine assembled from recovered alien code. Accurate. Not always aligned.
Xenolinguistics · First contact
Wrote the protocol for talking to something with no mouth, no ears and no hurry.
Flight engineer · The Hemvard
Keeps the ship alive. Talks to it more gently than to anyone aboard.
Odyssey Expeditions is SpaceOdysseyHub's original fiction universe. The physics here is real or clearly plausible, and everything invented is listed, explicitly, in the debrief you'll see after any ending: the real science (with links into our factual pages), what the Norse sources actually say, and what we made up. Fiction never leaks into the rest of the site.
