Eutelsat OneWeb · UK/France · Broadband Internet (enterprise/gov focus)
OneWeb is a low-Earth-orbit broadband network focused on enterprise, government, maritime, and aviation customers rather than direct consumers. Its first-generation constellation of 634 satellites at 1,200 km is complete and operational. After Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine stranded its Soyuz launches, OneWeb switched to Falcon 9 and ISRO's GSLV, and the company merged with Eutelsat in 2023 to become a combined GEO+LEO operator.
97.8% of the planned constellation deployed
OneWeb competes in LEO broadband but targets a different market: enterprise, government, maritime, and aviation connectivity sold through partners, rather than consumer dishes. Its 634-satellite Gen 1 fleet is far smaller than Starlink's.
OneWeb merged with French operator Eutelsat in 2023, creating Eutelsat OneWeb — one of the few operators running both geostationary (GEO) and low-Earth-orbit (LEO) fleets.
