IRIS² (Infrastructure for Resilience, Interconnectivity and Security by Satellite) is the European Union's sovereign multi-orbit constellation, combining LEO and MEO satellites for secure government communications and commercial broadband. Backed by a €6 billion budget, it is designed to give Europe strategic autonomy from US and Chinese systems and will incorporate quantum key distribution for ultra-secure links. Deployment is planned from 2029.
