Project Kuiper is Amazon's planned 3,236-satellite low-Earth-orbit broadband constellation and, at over $10 billion committed, the largest commercial space project by investment. After launching its first prototypes, Amazon must deploy half the constellation by mid-2026 to satisfy its FCC license. Kuiper's distinguishing bet is deep integration with AWS cloud services and custom-built consumer and enterprise ground terminals.
0.1% of the planned constellation deployed
Amazon began launching production Kuiper satellites in 2025–2026 and must have roughly 1,600 satellites — half its constellation — in orbit by mid-2026 to meet FCC requirements, with broader consumer service following deployment.
Kuiper trails Starlink heavily on deployment but leans on Amazon's scale: tight integration with AWS, custom low-cost terminals, and 92 secured launches across Atlas V, Vulcan, New Glenn, and Ariane 6.
